Frequently Asked Questions
How we research, score and publish, and how to get in touch with the team.
What is BuildingTech Insights?
An independent research site for people who choose, install and run building technology. We publish comparisons, Thrive Scores™, market analysis and practical articles on building automation, HVAC integration, IoT, energy and smart infrastructure.
Who is the site written for?
System integrators, consulting engineers, facility and energy managers, building owners and the technology buyers who have to sign off on a purchase. Most articles assume you already know what a BMS is and want the details that rarely make it into a brochure.
Do vendors pay to be included or to get a better score?
No. Inclusion in a comparison and the score a solution receives are editorial decisions. Vendors cannot buy a placement, a ranking or a review.
How is a Thrive Score calculated?
Each solution is rated on seven criteria: compatibility, ease of deployment, scalability, user experience, innovation, support and ecosystem, and value and ROI. The ratings draw on technical documentation, product capabilities, integration options, market presence and practical experience from projects. The full method is described on the Thrive Scores page.
How often are scores and comparisons updated?
Whenever something material changes, such as a new product generation, a protocol added or dropped, or a support change. Every article shows its publication date so you can judge how current it is.
Can I suggest a product or technology for review?
Yes. Send the details to [email protected]. We read every suggestion, but we only publish an evaluation when we have enough reliable information to be fair to the product and useful to readers.
I found a mistake in an article. What should I do?
Tell us at [email protected] and include the page address. Technical corrections are checked and, when confirmed, the article is updated.
Do you provide consulting or system design services?
No. BuildingTech Insights is a research and publishing platform. Our content can help you prepare questions and shortlists, but project decisions should involve a qualified engineer or integrator who knows your building.
Why don't some articles name specific products?
Many questions, like how to name BMS points or how to size a submetering CT, have the same answer whichever product you buy. In those articles naming brands would add noise rather than insight.
What does the newsletter include?
New comparisons and Thrive Scores, the latest articles and the occasional industry update. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
Can I republish or quote your content?
Short quotes with a link back to the original page are welcome. For anything longer, such as a full article or a scoring table, please ask first at [email protected].
How do you handle my personal data?
We collect only what is needed, for example your email address if you subscribe. Analytics cookies load only after you accept them. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
